"Our purpose is to utilize consciousness research to explore and validate spiritual realities, and in so doing to develop a science of consciousness that will benefit mankind in multiple areas."

We are dedicated to truth for its own sake, as well as to establishing a scale of relative degrees of truth as compared to an absolute. The Institute for Spiritual Research was founded to support research into the nature of consciousness and to establish a science of consciousness whereby the truth of spiritual realities could be verified.

The major discovery for such a science was reported in 1995 in a doctoral dissertation: Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis and Calibration of the Levels of Human Consciousness. This was published in book form as Power vs. Force, which introduced the now-renowned Map of Consciousness®, published worldwide in 15 languages.

Dr. David R. Hawkins (1927–2012) was a nationally renowned psychiatrist, physician, researcher, and spiritual teacher. His landmark development of the Map of Consciousness® and the science of consciousness calibration provided the first reproducible, scientific basis for the study of spiritual realities.

Over a career spanning five decades, Dr. Hawkins authored more than twenty books, delivered thousands of lectures worldwide, and guided students across every spiritual tradition.
